It’s important to never forget to brush our teeth. Even when we are traveling around the world, having the time of our lives, it’s still important to maintain proper oral health habits.
Our regular toothbrushes don’t really cut it while traveling. Full sizes brushes take up room, their cases even more so. Luckily, there are a plethora of travel toothbrushes to choose from.
Travel toothbrushes come a variety of shapes, sizes and types. Generally, they have some sort of self-containing mechanism that allows them to store compact and easily. Not all travel toothbrushes were created equally, however.
I’ve gone through and reviewed several travel toothbrushes. What I’ve come up with is a list of the top five travel toothbrushes. Here they are:
Top 5 Travel Toothbrushes
I’ve narrowed it down to the top five travel toothbrushes. I made my decisions based on features, portability and type of toothbrush. You’ll see a couple of unique options on this list as well as fairly normal style travel toothbrushes.
#1 Travel Folding Soft Toothbrush by GUM
Coming in at number one on my list, this is the best manual travel-style toothbrush I could find. It is super compact.
The brush head folds back in onto the handle. It is secured really nicely into the handle as well so it won’t unfold or come flying out in your luggage or bag.
The brush head is really soft and easy to use as well. Usually, travel toothbrushes sacrifice quality for portability. This brush doesn’t. The bristles are thick, yet soft and easy on the teeth.
In addition, the brush head has a textured tongue scraper on the back. Even though it doesn’t substitute for a true tongue scraper, it will definitely scrape a decent amount of gunk off the surface of the tongue. You’ll have fresher breath as a result.
Another great feature of this toothbrush is the anti-bacterial coating. This is on the both the brush head and the surface of the handle/case. Germs won’t have a chance to grow on it so you won’t have to worry about the brush getting a nasty smell to it. It stays clean without any effort so you can focus more on your travels.
I really enjoyed using this toothbrush. It feels like a normal, full-sized toothbrush yet is compact and sturdy. It’s a high quality travel toothbrush that doesn’t make any sacrifices to be portable. It will keep itself pretty clean and germ free. It doesn’t suffer from the drawbacks and problems that most other travel toothbrushes do.
This toothbrush from radius is another great toothbrush with a folding design.
The brush head folds back into the handle in a jack-knife style back into the handle. Just like the GUM brush, it’s a clear plastic and is highly portable.
There are two unique features of the RADIUS brush that make it stand out amongst travel toothbrushes.
First are its materials. It’s made from an eco-friendly, petroleum free, wood-based bioplastic. If you lose it or have to throw it away, it’s much better for the environment than traditional, normal plastic brushes. There aren’t any other travel toothbrushes like it.
The other feature are the replaceable heads, unique amongst travel toothbrushes. If, for some reason, the head becomes worn out or gets a bad odor, you can simply toss it and snap on a replacement head. It’s a really nice feature that makes sure your toothbrush is in tip top shape and not getting a nasty funk.
As a toothbrush goes, the brush head is a wide, almond shape with really soft bristles. I found it to be a little gentler but weaker than the GUM brush. Still, it’s a great brush to use that will keep your breath clean on your travels.
If you’re an eco-friendly traveler, this is the toothbrush for you. It’s petroleum free plastic is much better for the environment and the replaceable heads save the environment even further.
If you are a fan of electric toothbrushes but don’t want to lug around your bulky toothbrush and charger, this toothbrush has your name on it.
It’s an ultra-portable electric toothbrush. It’s compact, about the size of a tube of lipstick. In fact, the case and cape are styled after the cosmetic. In fact, it’s surprisingly sleek, stylish and stealthy.
Don’t worry about bacteria build up or smell either; the cap is self-ventilating to prevent bacteria build up.
The toothbrush uses a similar action as the sonicare, using about 22,000 micro-vibrations per minute to scrub away the plaque and the build up on the teeth. It’s just as effective as your fancy Sonicare or Oral-B high end model sitting at home.
Compared to my electric, however, i felt like it was a little underpowered. At home, it won’t substitute for your regular electric toothbrush but it will most certainly substitute while you are out and about.
One problem is that the battery is a little weak. If you use it a lot or are traveling for a long time, you’ll want to bring along a replacement battery so it won’t die off.
The main downside to this product is the brush head bristles are medium, not soft. While this is not an issue in the short term, using hard bristles for an extended period of time is bad for your enamel and can cause gum flare ups.
Still, it’s a unique toothbrush that will definitely do the job a regular electric does. It’s the best portable battery powered toothbrush out there. The Violife is a great choice for a portable toothbrush and what I consider to be the best travel electric toothbrush.
This is another very unique travel toothbrush. Indeed, it is unlike a regular toothbrush.
These are one to two use disposable toothbrushes. The tips have toothpaste pre-applied on them so you won’t need to bring along any toothpaste.
In fact, these toothbrushes don’t require any water at all. If you’re an outdoorsman, a camper or just someone who is in a big hurry, these are a great option. They are really tiny, smaller than any of the other toothbrushes on this list.
They are super convenient and get the job done. The toothpaste isn’t very strong but they still foam up and keep your teeth clean.
The brush heads, while simple and a little still, are well designed. You’re not brushing your teeth with twigs here! You won’t have to worry about coverage or your dental health either.
I liked using these tiny little brushes. They are minty, nice and convenient. While I preferred to use them with water, I still liked how I could just use one after a meal or before a meeting and toss it.
There are a couple of fundamental downsides to this type of toothbrush design. As I said, they only last for a few uses as they are designed to be disposable. This is not the best choice for the environmentally minded as it generates additional litter.
As I said, there isn’t that much toothpaste on it. You might have to bring a little tube of paste with you after all if you’re worried about your dental health or your toothpaste.
Still, it’s an excellent option if you want a little toothbrush that’s both portable and ultra-convenient.
These colorful toothbrushes are the standard design for travel toothbrushes. This means they lock into the opening of the case, forming a full sized toothbrush.
The ability to have a full sized toothbrush that is portable might be important for some users. A short brush makes it hard to be thorough and get to hard to reach areas. With these brushes, you don’t have to sacrifice coverage for portability.
The Dental Aesthetics brush is a great choice if you want something full sized and colorful. These brushes come in four, vividly colored cases. You won’t lose these very easily or get them mixed up.
The brush heads, while ordinary, are really soft and gentle. They are easy to clean and don’t have any crevices or creases.
Unlike the other brushes on this list, however, it doesn’t bring anything unique or innovative to the table. It’s truly a standard, effective travel toothbrush.
It’s certainly not a bad toothbrush. It’s just not stand-out either. It doesn’t have any eco friendly, cleaning or unusual portability features.
I enjoyed using the toothbrush. The soft bristles are easy on my sensitive gums and teeth. It’s easy to use.
One thing about this style of toothbrush is the brush head can come off the base if you brush really vigorously. If you’re a “power-brusher,” this toothbrush might be a bad choice for you.
In addition, this style of case is a little prone to bacteria build up. The seal created by the brush head locking back into the tube-handle doesn’t allow for truly proper ventilation. There can be a build of up germs and bad smell. You’ll want to wash out the handle/case periodically.
Overall, the Dental Aesthetics is a solid travel toothbrush choice, especially if you want something that is full length. It’s just not noteworthy or unique. Still, it gets the job done and is still compact for a travel toothbrush.
While we are out traveling, having the time of our lives, it’s easy to forget about our dental health. Packing a toothbrush can be space consuming.
Travel toothbrushes make it easy for us to preserve our teeth and dental health while we are out on adventures. There’s no reason to pack a full sized toothbrush. There are high quality travel toothbrushes out there.
I’ve found the best five travel toothbrushes. The Travel Folding Soft Toothbrush is the high quality brush I could find. It’s super small and super portable. This comes without sacrificing quality or ability to keep teeth clean.
The next best option I found was the eco friendly, RADIUS Tour Travel Toothbrush. It’s made from eco-friendly wood-based plastic. Plus, the brush heads are replaceable so you won’t have to buy a new brush if it gets worn out or gunked up on your journeys.
If you just can’t do without an electric model, the Violife Slim Sonic Electric Toothbrush is the way to go. It’s the most portable and stylish electric travel toothbrush out there. It’s got a great sonic action and portable case.
For the ultimate portability and convenience, opt for the Colgate Wisp. These wisps of toothbrushes are tiny and easy to use. They are disposable so no need to bring along any toothpaste.
Finally, the Dental Aesthetics Toothbrushes bring colorful, full sized toothbrushes on your travels. They don’t sacrifice portability for size either. It’s the classic travel toothbrush.
No matter which choice you make, don’t forget to bring a toothbrush along with you on your journey.
